In All Things We Praise God . . .
For the Blessings He Has Showered On Us

Open letter to visitors,

There’s a great story out of Robert Fulghum’s book “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” where he describes a group of children outside his window playing the game hide and seek. There is one particular kid who found such a great hiding place (under a pile of leaves) that nobody could find him. How sad it was that this poor kid hid so well that he never was found by his friends and neighbors. Fulghum said, “I wanted to push up my window and yell at the top of my voice, “get found kid, GET FOUND!”   He then suggests that the role of the church today is not to encourage “hide and seek behavior” but instead offer to the world a new way of living and working. He suggests that instead of Hide and Seek, God actually prefers a game called Sardines. In this game, one person goes out to hide and when someone finds them they are to crawl in beside them. By the end of the game you have everyone squeezed in tight (like Sardines), laughing, touching, giggling, and joyfully smiling.

I like that story because it reminds me of our warm and accepting church. It reminds me how important it is for the church today to be a place where people can hide out together. Yes, we are united in the common unity of our faith in Christ, but how pleased I am that this place called Providence would rather error on the side of offering too much grace rather than too much judgment.   I’m so glad that this is a place where we don’t have to impress each other with self-righteous legalism. I’m so glad that we don’t require everyone to fit in a particular mold or mandate that all who come agree on a particular stance towards the social issues of the day. Here at Providence, we don’t claim to have an exclusive understanding of the truth but instead allow people to find Christ and be found.

There’s nothing more freeing and life changing than being a part of a group of people who know you, love you, and accept you for the unique creation God made you to be and if you are seeking a place to be found, we want you to know that you will be welcome here.

What to expect when you first visit Providence.

So, now if you've taken the time to read Pastor David's letter above, here's some additional information about Providence Presbyterian Church.

We are a relatively new church development of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Since being formally organized in October of 2003, we have steadily grown in our hands-on mission to inspire worship and Christian education for all ages that challenges the mind and nurtures the soul.  Our demographics are fairly well distributed across all age groups: 5% are children, 32% are 26-45 years old, 24% are 46-55, 17% are 56-65, and 22% are 65 or older.

When you first visit us on a Sunday morning, you may hesitate at finding us located at the end of a small shopping center, but you will be truly amazed to find a beautiful, uplifting sanctuary within.  Once inside, you'll find an atmosphere that lends itself to the worship of our Creator.  In addition, you'll meet a friendly congregation filled with vitality.  Our worship is traditional in nature and yet there is a spirit in the air that is far from boring.

Though there are a variety of wonderful churches in the Parker area, our church is unique in its mission and focus.

  • We believe the foundation of our church is Jesus Christ, but we don't claim an exclusive understanding of the truth or ask rigid adherence on divisive social issues of the day.
  • We would rather err on the side of grace than being judgmental.  Our life together is tolerant of many perspectives knowing God alone is the Lord of the conscience.
  • We encourage a lifelong deepening of a relationship with God in Christ through prayer, worship, the study of Scripture, and involvement in service and mission.

We encourage you to worship with us a time or two or give Pastor David a call to see if Providence is the right church for you.  Please know that you are formally invited and there is already at work a spirit of hospitality that awaits you.
